For a lot of people, summer is already one third over. If
you’re starting to feel like you haven’t done anything except work and/or sleep
in, here’s a list of things you have plenty of time left to do!
Exercise is always good, but walking outside in the summer
is the best time to do so. The leaves are fully green, flowers and berries are
out, and animals are everywhere.
2.
Visit the beach and go swimming
Classic summer activity. Maybe you were waiting for it to
get warmer before going. Pick out a hot day, grab a large amount of sunscreen,
and splash your siblings or build a sand castle.
3.
Get some ice cream
Another classic summer activity that tastes best when it is
hot. Maybe there’s a local stand you went to as a child, or an ice cream truck
travels around your neighborhood, or you just stop at the grocery store and
choose your favorite flavor.
4.
Read that book you’ve been putting off reading
We all have that to-read pile that just grows and grows. This
is the perfect time to catch up on that bestseller or make your way through a
new series.
5.
Hang out with some friends you haven’t seen in a
while
Combine some of these ideas with some high school friends! Hit
the beach, storm the mall, and take over the ice cream stand: any day spent
with besties you haven’t seen in months is a good day.
6.
Visit your grandparents
Especially if you go to school or live far away from your
grandparents, carve out some of this free time to spend with them. They will
enjoy spending time with you as much as you do with them.
7.
Start a new show – short or long
Sort of like with all those books, you’re bound to have a
to-watch list as well. Whether it’s diving into a multi-season universe or a
nine-episode binge, spend a little time getting to know some new characters.
8.
Learn about something new
The school year is full of things you must learn for your
major or core, and not all of it is interesting. Spend some time doing a little
research at your own pace on something you wish was taught in a class.
9.
Go through old pictures
Pictures, projects, cards, toys. Memories can be found in
the darkest corners of your closet or under your bed. Take an afternoon and
dust the cobwebs off those grade school sticker-worthy projects and goofy photo
strips.
10. Buy
a new outfit
Translation: go shopping! This is when you can spend that
birthday and Christmas money, and you can do it with girlfriends, your mother, or
grandmother; someone might need to hold you back.
11. Do
something outside: read, draw, lie in the sun
Before you know it, the leaves will start to turn, frost
will make small appearances, and we will glorify the return of sweater weather.
Soak up some sun before classes return and you must stay inside.
Happy summer!
